The World Cup is over as France have won the tournament twenty years after they won their first World Cup at home in 1998. Croatia were excellent as well and for their first final they showed why they deserved to be there.
It was a tight game between France and Belgium but it was France who scored the only goal in the game to reach the World Cup final, their first since 2006.
France are through to the semi-finals of the World Cup after beating Uruguay, and have now staked a claim at being the favourites for this year’s tournament.
The round of 16 got off to a flying start with one of the best games at this World Cup so far when France beat Argentina to reach the quarter-finals.
Group C saw one of the worst games of football so far in this World Cup when France faced Denmark, while Peru got their first win at a World Cup since 1978 when they beat Australia.
France secured their place in the last 16 with their win over Peru who just haven’t been able to get going so far at this World Cup, Denmark and Australia drew meaning that Australia still have a chance of progressing from Group C.
In Group C France were able to get a win over Australia thanks to some help from VAR and Denmark got an important win over Peru.
Group C sees France, Denmark, Australia and Peru in a group together. France will be favourites to win the group and so that means second place is up for grabs.
So the five major leagues in Europe have finished for the summer, all we have left is the Champions League final and club football in England, France, Spain, Germany and Italy will be over for this season.
