Group D saw one of the biggest shocks of the World Cup so far when Argentina and Iceland drew, while Croatia took control of the group thanks to a 2-0 against Nigeria.
Everyone’s favourite small Country Iceland got themselves a massive result in their first ever World Cup game as they got a 1-1 draw with two time World Cup winners Argentina. It was a great game that saw Argentina take the lead but for Iceland to get the equaliser not long after, Lionel Messi seemed to be on a one man mission to score a goal and win this game but it just wasn’t happening for him. He missed a penalty and every shot he hit just didn’t want to go in, Iceland though will be delighted with this draw and now they have a real opportunity to qualify from this group.
The other game in this group saw Croatia beat Nigeria 2-0 in what was a very comfortable win for the Croatians, they dominated the game while the young Nigeria side looked a bit overawed by the occasion. The win means that Croatia are now favourites to qualify from this group but this was called the Group of Death before the start of the tournament so anything can happen.
