It looks as if no one can stop Manchester City in the form they are in at the moment. It looks as if it will be a question of when not if Man City will win the Premier League title.
Man City haven’t dropped a point since they drew 1-1 with Everton earlier in the season, and on current form they look nowhere near dropping any points soon. The Christmas period is usually a time were there will be freak results and teams at the top would lose against teams at the bottom, but at the moment Man City look like they may never lose or drop any points this season.
Manchester United came off the defeat against Man City with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth with the goal coming from Lukaku who hasn’t scored in a while, so would have been delighted to get that goal. United haven’t looked in top form of late and that defeat against City has probably hurt them badly, but a win keeps them in second place and if they keep on picking up wins they should secure second place at least this season.
Liverpool played West Brom after their 1-1 draw with Everton in the derby, and this game didn’t fare much better for them as it ended 0-0. Liverpool are a team that can blow other teams away at times but so far during this Christmas period they have been hit and miss. Against Everton they should have scored five, but in this game against West Brom a 0-0 draw was probably deserved.
Sometimes during the mid-week games at Christmas they can be boring affairs but not this game between Southampton and Leicester City which ended 4-1 to Leicester. Southampton were going into this game not having scored many goals while also not conceding many either, but they were coming up against their manager of last year Claude Puel who since he took over at Leicester has transformed them into a free scoring team again. That showed as Leicester ran all over Southampton and deserved their 4-1 win and Puel was able to show Southampton fans what they were missing after they sacked him in the summer.
The other results of the mid-week fixtures were Huddersfield suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Chelsea, Burnley kept up their impressive form by beating Stoke 1-0, Crystal palace are out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Watford, Everton are finally climbing the table as they beat Newcastle 1-0 away from home. Tottenham beat Brighton 2-0 to keep up their challenge with the top four, while Arsenal struggled and ended up drawing 0-0 with West Ham at the London stadium. The games keep coming thick and fast so everybody will have to get themselves prepared for the next game and get over disappointments and carry on their great form.
