James McClean does it again, McClean has done so much for the Republic of Ireland during this qualifying campaign and has now scored the goal that sends Ireland one step closer to the World Cup in Russia.
Wales and the Republic of Ireland headed into this game knowing that only a win would do for both of them, anything less and their World Cup hopes would be over. It played out very much like a must win game as well with Ireland defending for their lives while Wales had the majority of the possession. Wales didn’t make their superiority count though and in the second half McClean scored a beautiful right footed volley that was made from Jeff Hendrick’s hard work and cross, with a good bit of help from Harry Arter’s dummy as well for McClean to grab the headlines again with a superb goal.
The Irish defence were superb as well with Shane Duffy being the pick of the bunch. After Wales went down to the McClean goal Ireland sat back and allowed Wales to attack but they just couldn’t find a way through.
So after a brilliant Euro 2016 Wales have failed to make the World Cup while Ireland still have a chance of reaching Russia next summer, all they have to do now is to wait and see who they will face in the play-off when the draw is made on the 17th October.
