Confederations Cup Final and 3rd Place Play Off

On Sunday Germany won their first ever Confederations Cup beating Chile 1-0 in a very tight and fiery match.

Chile had started the game on fire and could easily have scored a hand full of goals, but as always the way in football when you are on top but haven’t scored there is always a chance the other tam will. That was exactly what happened as Germany pressured Chile into making a mistake and from that they scored the easiest goal imaginable. That turned out to be the only goal of the game but there was still some excitement, as Chile could have had player sent off.

The 3rd place play off was also on Sunday and it saw Portugal take on Mexico. It turned out to be a really exciting game even though Portugal didn’t play most of their big players as Cristiano Ronaldo was allowed to go home early. Mexico took the lead thanks to an own goal from Neto, Portugal then equalised in the last minute thanks to a Pepe goal. They won in extra time thanks to a Adrien Silva goal, but that wasn’t the end of the action as both Portugal and Mexico had a player sent off.

The Confederations Cup is over and therefore competive football is over for the summer, meaning we can all take a good break from football for a while. It has been a great tournament and definitely made it look like the World Cup in Russia next summer should be an exciting tournament.
