Champions League Round of 16: First Leg

The knockout stages have finally started in the Champions League and it looks as if we have had ourselves an exciting round of games.

All the games played had goals in them and none more so than Manchester City’s 5-3 win over Monaco in one of the best games ever in the Champions League.

Obvisously it wasn’t a great game for defending but in attack everyone was on fire. Sergio Aguero who has been left out of Man City’s last few games came back with a hat trick, even Radamel Falcao who could hardly score in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea scored two goals. One of his goal was one of the best on the night with a beautiful chip over Man City’s Goalkeeper.

The other big scoreline from the round of 16 first legs was Bayern MUnich’s 5-1 over Arsenal the second year in a row they have got the same result against Arsenal. While with the Monaco game you feel there is a chance they could come back, with Arsenal you feel they are already out.

The biggest shock of the round surely had to go to Paris Saint Germain who beat Barcelona 4-0, meaning that Barcelona look likely to go out of the Champions League at the round of 16 when they have been one of the most dominate teams in the Champions League for the past 10 years.

The other results from the round of 16 were as follows:

Benfica 1-0 Borussia Dortmund

FC Porto 0-2 Juventus

Sevilla 2-1 Leicester City

Real Madrid 3-1 Napoli

Bayer Leverkusen 2-4 Atletico Madrid

These first legs have set up an even more exciting second leg and I am sure we all can’t wait to see what happens.
