What a year 2016 between politics, celebrities and major sporting events there was some huge surprises this year.

This past year has been one of major surprises such as Leicester City winning the Premier League after having been 5000-1 to win the league at the start of the season.

Leicester surprised everyone with winning the league and this in turn has made everyone believe that is possible to win the league no matter how big your budget is. Leicester City have also done brilliantly in the Champions League, they won their group in their debut season in the competition and will now face Sevilla in the new year.

The other big surprise of this year was Portugal winning the European Championship during the summer. They beat France in the final, without Cristiano Ronaldo who got injured early in the game and an extra goal from Swansea City reject Eder.

Another big story from 2016 was Dundalk who were the second Irish team to ever reach the Europa League group stages, but they were the first Irish team to ever win a Europa League group stage game. Dundalk have done so well this season that they have enough money to keep themselves self sufficient for the next few years.

Coming to the end of 2016 the biggest stories have been RB Leipzig who having putting up a title challenge against Bayern Munich even though they were only promoted this season. While in France Nice have gone into the New Year as Leaders of Ligue 1 and are five points clear of Paris Saint Germain who everyone expected to win the league easily again. The other big story from Nice is Mario Balotelli who has become a key player in their attempt to win the league, and looks like the player everyone thought he could be.

Let’s hope that 2017 will bring as many surprising in a Football sense, and that there are many more fairy tale stories such as Leicester City’s in the new year.

Wishing you a Happy New Year .
