Champions League Group Stage: Matchday 5

This year’s Champions League has got crazier and crazier, only a couple of weeks ago did we see loads of goals pouring in during most of the games. Well this week saw the biggest scoreline ever in a Champions League group stage match.

Not only did we see the biggest scoreline in the Champions League group stages but we also saw some surprise results. The record breaking scoreline came from the Borussia Dortmund game as they beat Legia Warsaw 8-4. The surprising thing from this game though might be the fact that Dortmund were actually down 1-0 at one stage. That didn’t stop them as they went on a rampage and proved they they are certainly in the mix when it comes to Champions League contenders.

The surprising results came from Tottenham Hotspur being knocked out of the Champions League by Monaco after a 2-1 defeat. While in Russia FC Rostov who had never won a Champions League game before took one of the biggest scalps by beating the European giants Bayern Munich 3-2, meaning that Bayern finish their group stage in second place.

Bayern will now be hoping that they get a kind draw after finishing second, while Spurs will have to contend with the Europa League.

Finally there was one more amazing game to talk about from matchday 5 and that was Besiktas’ comeback against Benfica. Benfica were 3-0 at half time, and in the last minute of the game Besiktas scored an equaliser to level the game 3-3 and keep them in with a chance of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.
