This round of group stage matches was about goals, goals, and more goals.
The biggest win of the round was Arsenal’s 6-0 win against Bulgarian Champions Ludogorets, this game also seen Mesut Ozil scoring his first ever senior hat trick. That win for Arsenal keeps them on level point with Paris Saint Germain after they beat Basel 3-0. This result for Arsenal keeps them in contention for winning their group for the first time in many years and Arsenal fans will be hoping they do as they haven’t had much luck in the draw when they have finished second.
Clearly the biggest game of Matchday 3 was Pep Guardiola’s return to Barcelona and the Nou Camp as Manchester City Manager. The game definitely didn’t go the way Pep would have wanted having gone 1-0 down to a Lionel Messi goal after Fernandinho slipped, Claudio Bravo the Manchester City Goalkeeper then got sent off for handling the ball outside the box. After that Messi completed his hat trick on the 69th minute making it 3-0, Jeremy Mathieu the Bacrelona Defender also got sent off for two yellow cards within two minutes, Neymar missed a penalty and then Neymar scored a fantastic goal to make up for his penalty miss to end the game at 4-0.
The other game in Manchester City’s group ended 2-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach against Celtic, the goals came after two Kolo Toure mistakes.
In the rest of the Champions League fixtures the biggest results were Napoli who lost 3-2 to Besiktas, Bayern Munich won 4-1 against PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid hammered Legia Warsaw 5-1, Legia have not had a good time in the Champions League so far having already been beat 6-0 by Borussia Dortmund and 2-0 by Sporting Lisbon.
Hopefully in the next round of fixtures we will get even more goals and even more exciting football.
