Euro Stars

With Euro 2016 starting this Friday this article will be about the teams competing at the tournament and who I believe will be their star players. Some teams have so many star quality players that it is very hard to mention just one player, so players that I do believe will make a difference for teams will be mentioned also.

Group A:

France:

France are the host nation and the favourites for the tournament, even though they do not have the services of Benzema in the team they still have quality players that can win a match for them such as Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, Anthony Martial and Dimitri Payet.

Star Man – Antoine Griezmann, Striker at Atlético Madrid.

Albania:

They had a fantastic qualification beating Portugal away from home along the way while also reaching their first ever European Championship and making sure Denmark didn’t qualify.

Star Man – Lorik Cana, Centre Back/Centre Midfielder at FC Nantes also formerly of Sunderland and Lazio.

Romania:

Everybody remembers Adrian Mutu who was at Chelsea and Juventus but there are not many recognisable faces in the Romanian team anymore. They are unlikely to make it through but with four third place teams qualifying one win could get them out of their group.

Star Man – Gabriel Torje, Right Winger at Udinese.

Switzerland:

One of the youngest teams at this years Euros, they have plenty of qualify players including Arsenal’s new signing Granit Xhaka.

Star Man – Xherdan Shaqiri, Left Midfielder at Stoke City.

Group B

England:

Have a really good chance of doing well this tournament, a lot of players on form and the Premier League’s Top Goalscorers in Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.

Star Man – Harry Kane, Striker at Tottenham Hotspurs

Russia:

Got rid of Fabio Cappelo as Manager and brought in Leonid Slutsky and have looked far better ever since.

Star Man – Oleg Shatov, Striker at Zenit St Petersburg.

Wales:

There is only one player you think about when you think of Wales and that is Gareth Bale, one of the best players in the world if he is on form Wales could go far.

Star Man – Gareth Bale, Left Winger at Real Madrid.

Slovakia:

Like Wales ask anyone to name you a Slovakian player and the name you will hear is that of Marek Hamšik, he is their best player and the most likely to make things happen for them.

Star Man – Marek Hamšík, Attacking Midfielder for Napoli.

Group C

Germany:

They are World Champions and second favourites behind France, although Philip Lahm and Miroslav Klose have retired they still have plenty of quality.

Star Man – Thomas Muller, Attacking Midfielder/Striker at Bayern Munich.

Ukraine:

Possibly the best team Ukraine have ever had, they have loads of attacking talent and it will be interesting to see how they do.

Star Man – Yevgen Konoplyanka, Left Midfielder at Sevilla.

Poland:

Another team with one stand out player, if Robert Lewandowski is firing who knows where they will end up

Star Man – Robert Lewandoski, Striker at Bayern Munich.

Northern Ireland:

Coming into their first Euros on a 12 match unbeaten run is fantastic, they have great team work and won’t be easy to beat.

Star Man – Steven Davis, Central Midfielder at Southampton.

Group D

Spain:

It is easy to forget that Spain have won the last two European Championships and have the player quality to win a third in a row.

Star Man – Andreas Iniesta, Central Midfielder at Barcelona.

Czech Republic:

Everyone remembers the Euros when Milan Baros was top goalscorer, I can’t see Czech Republic repeating that this time though.

Star Man – Petr Čech, Gaolkeeper at Arsenal.

Turkey:

Turkey have always been a surprise package at Euro tournaments and this year could just be the same, plenty of quality in attack they could go far.

Star Man – Arda Turan, Left Midfielder at Barcelona.

Croatia:

Many people’s dark horses for the tournament Croatia have some of the best midfielders in the world at the moment.

Star Man – Luka Modrić, Central Midfielder at Real Madrid.

Group E

Belgium:

With the amount of quality Belgium have surely they have to be one of the favourites for this tournament, but many golden generations never live up to their expectations.

Star Man – Kevin De Bruyne, Attacking Midfielder at Manchester City.

Italy:

Would usually be a favourite but with injuries and a lack of talent it will be interesting to see where Italy go.

Star Man – Antonio Candreva, Right Winger at Lazio.

Republic of Ireland:

A tough group but having shown that they can beat Germany anything is possible.

Star Man – Shane Long, Striker at Southampton.

Sweden:

Zlatan.

Star Man – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Striker currently a Free Agent.

Group F

Portugal:

A team with Cristiano Ronaldo in it should do well.

Star Man – Cristiano Ronaldo, Left Winger at Real Madrid.

Iceland:

The smallest country at the Euros and the biggest underdogs, they have surprised everybody so far why can’t they keep on going.

Star Man Gylfi Sigurðsson, Attacking Midfielder at Swansea.

Austria:

Another one of the dark horses, they play Bayern’s David Alaba in a attacking position compared to his left back position at Bayern and it seems to work, making Austria a very hard team to predict and play against.

Star Man – David Alaba, Left Back at Bayern Munich.

Hungary:

They qualified out of the same group as Northern Ireland and have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout round at the Euros.

Star Man – Balázs Dzsudzsák, Left Midfielder at Bursaspor also formerly of PSV.
