Clermont Foot were founded in 1990, they play their football in the Second Divison of France Ligue 2, and although they are a very young club they have made a massive decision that no major European league team has done in it’s history.
In May 2014 Clermont hired Helena Costa as their new manager the first female manager of a Men’s Professional football team since Carolina Morace, who took charge of Italian Serie C1 team Viterbese for two matches in 1999. A month after Helena was hired as the new Clermont Foot manager she resigned citing that players were being bought behind her back and that she wasn’t getting a say in major management decisions. In June 2014 Clermont decided to stick with their plan and hired another female coach in French Women’s footballing legend Corinne Diacre who had earned 121 caps for the national team.
Clermont Foot were never considered a team that would be fighting for promotion but two years on from Corinne’s appointment as manager Clermont Foot they sit third in Ligue 2 with a real chance of getting promoted and Corinne has a chance of becoming the first ever female coach to manage in one of the biggest leagues in Europe.

Not only will it be a massive story because she is doing so well, but it will also be a major story because Clermont Foot are not a team that anyone would have thought could get promoted this season. Since the club was formed in 1990 the club has moved up through all the divisions but has been in Ligue 2 since 2007, they have never been promoted to Ligue 1. So it will a massive achievement for the club as well as a massive achievement for Corinne Diacre and female coaches all over the world.
