Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, it is now the mid point of the football season for most of the big European Leagues. While most of the European Leagues are taking a Winter break like Italy and Germany, the Premier League has had it’s usual Christmas period football. While in Spain La Liga has return early this year from their winter break to help the Spanish National Team more time to prepare for the Euros this summer.

So while all of the other major leagues have been taking a break the Premier League and La Liga have been keeping us entertained over Christmas. In the Premier League Leicester City were top of the league on Christmas day but by the start of 2016 Arsenal have been sitting top and look like they have the best chance to win the league for the first time since 2004.

On the Premier League Managerial front Jose Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea and replaced with Guus Hiddink until the end of the season. There was a lot of pressure on Manchester United’s Louis Van Gaal as well, but he didn’t get the sack and United finally won their first game for over a month when they beat Swansea 2-1 on the first game of 2016.

While over in Spain the biggest news over the Christmas period was that Real Madrid’s Rafael Benitez was sacked and replaced by a Real Madrid legend in Zinedine Zidane. In other La Liga news Gary Neville is still looking for his first league win as manager of Valencia, but things have been looking good and after a 2-2 with Real Madrid it shouldn’t be long till he gets that win.
