Juventus v Barcelona Champions League Final

Well the Champions League Final in Berlin has come and gone, and what a great final it was, probably the best final for the last five years.

The game started of nervously for Barcelona, Juventus had a clear game plan to put them under pressure and force them into mistake. This however only lasted less than four minutes when a beautiful pass by Neymar found Andres Iniesta in space who in turn gave it to Ivan Rakitic for a simple tap in.

The goal had not changed Juventus’ tactics and they kept on pressing Barcelona, their midfield three of Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio worked tirelessly but Vidal seemed the most aggressive from the start and he finally got booked on 11 minutes for a tackle on Sergio Busquets. It started to look like it was going to be an easy game for Barcelona and on 13 minutes Gianluigi Buffon was forced into a brilliant save by Dani Alves. After this the game started to calm down again Juventus were getting more and more into the game and any chances Barca were getting they either missed or Buffon who was on brilliant form was saving them. Having a man on a booking against Barcelona is always and dangerous thing as they have the know how to win free kicks and it was no different with Vidal having been booked earlier any challenge he went in for Barcelona players swarmed the referee to make sure he knew the player had been tackled and that Vidal should be sent off. Luis Suarez had a great chance near the end of the first half that went inches wide but the first half end 1-0 to Barcelona.

The second half started very much the same as the first half Barcelona had a great chance to score on 49 minutes when Barcelona had 5 men on 3 but Suarez could only force Buffon into another brilliant save. Unlike the first half though Juventus were able to score equalising through Morata on the 55th minute. A beautiful move by Juventus allowed Carlos Tevez to go through who shot at goal only for Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen to palm the ball into the path of Alvaro Morata for a simple tap in.

Juventus did well to get back into the game but they only stayed level for 14 minutes when Lionel Messi who wasn’t his magical best on the night had a rare shot at goal, Buffon who had been brilliant on the night made a mistake in saving the shot which allowed Suarez an easy goal which made it 2-1 to Barca.

Things went from bad to worse for Juventus as only 3 minutes after making it 2-1 Barca scored again this time through Neymar, but lucky for Juventus it had turned out that Neymar had headed the ball onto his hand and into the net. There was a lot of debate from Juventus players that it was handball and once it was given Barcelona were not happy with Neymar pleading his innocence. After this incident the game started to die down substitutions were starting to be made and the game just didn’t have the same zip as it had before. Barcelona were happy with the lead and Juventus didn’t look like coming back into it. That is when Barcelona brought on Xavi for Iniesta to steady the ship and to give one of their greats his final game for Barcelona before he heads of to Qatar and also to allow him to break the record for most Champions League appearances at 151. Five added minutes were added on at the end of the match but with so many injuries and substitutions seven minutes were added. This is when Neymar scored Barca’s third goal making Neymar the joint top goalscorer in the competition with Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on 10 goals, and all but sealing the Champions League for Barcelona for the fourth time in nine years.
